Thursday Report for Feb 23, 2012

What a crazy weekend. The American holiday weekend was probably as busy as Christmas. I got to the Wizard Chairlift at 8am on Saturday to find out the lineup was out to the end of the maze on both sides. Luckily they opened the lifts at that time but there was still a long wait. Managed to get 3 nice powder runs in before I gave up and went home. I hear B.C. is going to get a long weekend the same time starting next year. Are they nuts! They should put it on the next weekend and spread the crowds out. Might write my Member of Parliament on this one.

On Monday I went for a short backcountry trip with Joe, Diane and Gord to the backside of Flute. It was Gord's first backcountry experience. We did the backside twice and went out Singing Pass as Gord broke his binding and couldn't skin back up. The trail is in pretty good condition.

Some of the powder we skied.
Today we had two tours of 14 go into the Blackcomb Glacier. The snow was pretty good although the untracked powder was gone. Got that yesterday.

Looks like some snow arriving tonight into tomorrow and it is going to get colder after that. Should be some nice powder tomorrow or Saturday morning..

Congratulations to my neighbour Marielle Thompson for winning 2 World Cup Ski Cross races in a row. See her website at http://mariellethompson.com/

You have to see this video, if you haven't already, of Josh Dueck doing a backflip on a sit ski near Powder Mountain just south of Whistler. http://espn.go.com/action/freeskiing/blog/_/post/7550716/sit-ski-backflip
