Thursday Report for Jan 8, 2015

As usual the snow did arrive after the Holidays. It started snowing Saturday night and snowed non stop until Tuesday early morning. I had to dig out the driveway 4 times on Sunday and then after some powder runs on Monday I fired up the snowblower and did it again. Monday was very busy as everybody was powder starved I think. Snow got heavier as the day went on. Looks more like Winter now in the Valley. It did warm up, so some snow did melt on the mountain, as I was surprised to see some bare patches under the Solar Coaster Chair today. After the big snowfall the temperatures have been going up and down with an inversion most of the week. This has caused the runs to become quite firm and the off piste very tricky with breakable crust in places. The groomers are starting to grind up the hard snow every day so conditions should improve and with the next snow storm we should get back to normal. No new snow is forecast for the near future but as we know the forecasts are usually wrong. Today our tour in the Blackcomb Glacier was interesting. It was actually a little better than I expected. The top where it had been skied was not bad, the middle was fine as you could stay on top of the snow and the bottom as very difficult breakable crust. The road out was fine but very hard and fast.

Blackcomb Glacier tour today

Rick in the powder on Monday. This is Lower Gear Jammer. It is still temporary out of bounds.

My side yard is looking more normal now.

View of Mt. Overlord from the Peak to Peak on Wednesday.

Fog in the valley and bright sunshine up top.

Slide just downhill of Corona right across the groomed road. Remember this Dec 2011
