Thursday Report for Jan 24, 2019

I guess you could call this week the good, the bad, and the ugly. We had a real ugly day on Saturday with big lineups due to weather, and an American long weekend. Upper lifts could not open with the wind etc.. Also a lot of drunk kids up from Washington State who can drink here at 19 yrs old but not back home. Luckily most of them were here to party and not ski. The night before we had 180 km winds up at the Roundhouse Restaurant which ripped the fabric roof off of the Umbrella Bar. Tuesday we had frozen rain, which was weird, as the temperatures did not indicate that would be the case. Other days were very nice with the sunshine but the best day ever was Wednesday with spectacular blue skies and fresh powder. Just like you see in the ski magazines. It was busy for the initial upload but only minor lineups after that. The snow as so easy to turn in and I got a lot of fresh tracks in Brownlie Basin, 7th Heaven and the Blackcomb Glacier. Monday on also has been fairly quiet on the mountains. Hopefully it will stay that way until at least President's Week.
Today was supposed to have blue skies but it quickly turned to a light overcast. The snow was still very nice though. The interesting thing is now that the new grooming staff seems to be up to speed is that they groomed Sorcerer and Black Magic. I think it is probably the first time ever that they have groomed Black Magic. It is the old Solar Coaster lift line.
This week is the Whistler Pride and Ski Week so look out for some interesting costumes. The weather looks like it is going to be warmer, especially on Saturday, with no rain or snow, just sun with some clouds.
