We are now 1 week into the new season. Pretty amazing conditions compared to last year. There is very good coverage on most open runs, We even skied out yesterday to Base 2 on Blackcomb even though it was marked Ski Area Boundary. I think that will open that officially soon.
There still has been huge lineups at the Creekside Gondola extending all the way out to the highway on some days. Just like in the early days in the 70's. Not sure where the people are coming from as the parking lot is not very full. I think the Village so far this year is the place to upload or Base 2. Lot 8 is now open by the way. Other lifts lines are not that bad, and even with the restricted loading, they move fairly fast
I hear rumours that more lifts will be running this weekend. It looked like they were getting Glacier and Crystal Chairs ready. Maybe Harmony as well? That will let them open more people to reserve every day and spread the people out on the runs. A lot of the days are selling out but the night before they open up again as people cancel before midnight.
The Glacier Creek Restaurant has a fair number of seats available compared to the Roundhouse. The tables in the Roundhouse seem to be spaced way to far apart. The menus are pretty sparse. They actually want you to bring a bag lunch. I am using whistlerpeak.com to reserve coffee and lunch times. It is far less steps then trying to use the EpicMix app. Once you have made your first reservations you don't need to go through the setup of your account again.
As far as Mountain Hosting goes it looks like I am starting next Thursday for a morning shift
at the Village location. So obey the mask rules or I might have to shoot you. I am picking up my Volly Pass and uniform on Sunday. Even had to make a reservation to do that.
They have made some changes to the reservations system to book the days you want to ski. We all thought the original set up was dumb so they must have got the message. You can now as of 11pm every night, book another day a week out. They apparently posted this change on Instagram but nowhere else. Duh!
We are currently experiencing an inversion but that is OK as there is no precipitation happening. When the moisture moves in after the weekend the temperatures are supposed to flip. So more snow starting Monday.
| Secret canyon we went for a 2.5km hike up North of Mountain Currie. Cascading waterfall all the way. Very pretty. |
| Instagram posts re the reservation changes thanks to Rose. |
