It has been a pretty good week. Most days we found some powder. No face shot days but lots of runs in the untracked. We even traversed into Symphony Bowl one day and skied a steep untracked run. Luckily someone had made the higher trail out in the right place so it was pretty quick to get back to the Burnt Stew Trail.
I think Whistler has more terrain and better grooming then Blackcomb so far this year. Someone said the rookie groomers are on Blackcomb this year. I love rumors.
This week also seemed a little quieter on some days. I guess Xmas shopping is happening. It will be interesting to see what happens between Xmas and New Years and whether or not all the days will sell out. Down in Vail they are already sold out. They are lacking snow so the numbers they can currently put on their hill might be quite low.
The lift lines seem to be working quite well. They have had Snow School instructors watching for mask wearing in the lines but I hear they will be replaced by Lift Ops people.
Whistler has had all of its lifts running except for the T-Bars and Symphony Chair. A Patroller told me that Symphony might open on Saturday. On Blackcomb all that is left is Glacier Chair, Magic Chair, and the Showcase T-Bar. The Tube Park has one lane open now.
The ski outs to the Village on both mountains are open but you do have to watch as there are some patches of low snow. The ski out to Creekside is not open yet and the ski out to the Blackcomb Daylodge is also not open. I did do it the other day but it was marginal.
A son of a friend of ours won $20,000 in a Go Pro Contest doing a back flip in the Terrain Park. Here is the link. He is near the end. The whole video is pretty impressive especially when the camera shot stays horizontal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhWbh2pZc1Y&feature=youtu.be
Looks like snow through Sunday with lots falling tomorrow and Saturday. We received nearly 15cm last night. The rest of the week looks like there is not much happening with temperatures not very cold but cold enough. To bad it is not just a few degrees cooler so they could make snow on the lower slopes.
Nice reflection on Alice Lake
Nice views of peaks on the 4 Lakes Trail
Not a soul on Whisky Jack on Wednesday afternoon.
Lower Olympic on Whistler has just enough snow.
