Thursday Report for Jan 27, 2011

It turned out to be a pretty good week even with the warm temperatures. The only day that was wet was Monday.

Saturday I went up with John the 73yr old snowboard instructor. He is an amazing boarder. In total there were 6 of us. We had a great time and did some really steep stuff. He corrected me on my toe turn with a simple tip. He is trying to get a Senior's Snowboard Team together like they have with the skiers. He will take any age though as he is having trouble finding anybody over 50 that snowboards. If you are interested his email address is johnphillips@cyberdude.com  Avoid the Whistler Cirque especially if you are on skis. There are 2 huge rocks in the entrance that you can't avoid.

Tuesday Rod showed up along with Rick and his friend Steve from Montreal. It looked lousy but we got above the clouds into lovely sunshine. The same for Wednesday. Went down Pakalolo. I forgot how steep it was and it was flat light which made it more interesting.

Steve had a bad break in his ankle years ago so can't bend it forward. We finally figured out after all of these years that we could fix his skiing problem by moving the binding back about an inch on that ski. It improved his skiing by 100% and he has no pain now.

Today was very nice as well, although not as sunny. The freezing level went through the roof but the snow held up even though it sure felt warm. No crowds at all but we had almost 70 people on tour today. We took 23 into the Blackcomb Glacier. This tour is becoming our most popular tour. We took some of the tour through the Race Center. I was the fastest but not by much. I think I need to practice this racing thing as I am losing my touch.

Looks like the freezing level will slowly start to drop over the next few days and we will get back to normal. No rain in the forecast so it should be OK for the weekend with the Sunshine returning on Saturday.

Blackcomb Peak should be renamed Whitecomb Peak.
