Another great week of nice snow, very cold temperatures and some powder thrown in. The Holiday crowds started to disappear on the weekend and it was very quiet midweek. Even on Monday, which was a great powder day, there were no mass lineups of people craving for fresh tracks. Got some nice untracked powder in Rhapsody Bowl. Had to bundle up though with the Arctic outflow. There were some photos I wanted to take but I didn't feel like getting frostbite on my hands trying to take them.
One interesting note is that since Vail Resorts bought Whistler Blackcomb we have been getting Colorado like snow. Is there a connection?
I also heard from a ski instructor that the record day we had on Dec 30th was a record for any resort, Even at least 10,000 more people than Vail had.Amazing with that many people the mountains handled them pretty well, except for the initial upload for people that sleep in.
Looks like the long cold blast we have been experiencing this Winter is coming to an end and we might even get some rain in the Valley. This should mean snow on most of the slopes just above the Valley bottom, especially on Monday and Tuesday.
This weekend is an American long weekend (Martin Luther King) for some, so remember to get to the lifts early to avoid upload lineups. Lifts officially open at 8:30am but unofficially it is 8:15am.

| Tours sizes are increasing as they always do this time of year. 18 people today on the Blackcomb Glacier tour. |
| New ski-thru ATM on Whistler. What will they think of next? |
| Sunset the other night from our balcony. |
| View of Whistler from 7th Heaven. Never get tired of it. |
| Lakeside Bowl on Blackcomb. Still some untracked snow out there. |
| Looking down on the Rendevous Restaurant and the Valley from Proposal Point. |
| A view of Ridge Runner through the trees burnt from the forest fire. |
| The jumps in the Terrain Park are huge and there are many added features this year. |
How many people on the record day?
ReplyDelete32,400 I think but have heard other numbers that are higher.
DeleteNo surprised. We had a day last Jan was so busy that it took 3 hours from Callaghan Valley traffic jam to top of the Peak. No more weekends for us ...
