Another nice week. Powder and no crowds until today. Today, or the next few days are typically the busiest of the season.
This week Harmony Chair and the Showcase T-bar opened and on Christmas Eve they finally opened Symphony Chair. These lifts are usually open at least a week earlier so I don't know what the delay was, as there was lots of snow. Also Upper Peak to Peak is open and Lower Dave Murray Downhill as well as the Blackcomb Glacier. All ski outs are now open.
As I mentioned there were crowds today. I was assigned in the morning to greet people at the Excalibur Gondola in the Village. I got there at 8:15am and there were no lineups anywhere. Then the new Blackcomb Gondola broke down. All Hell broke loose. The lineups for the Village Gondola, the Excalibur Gondola and Fitzsimons Chair all merged and disappeared down to Mountain Square. They finally fixed the Gondola and the lineups went down around 11:15am. Once I got up on Blackcomb Mountain it didn't seem busy at all. No lineup at Catskinner or Lower and Mid Blackcomb Gondola. I think everybody was on Whistler or they went to eat. The Rendezvous Restaurant was packed. Hope there will be no more lift breakdowns for the rest of the Holiday Season. By the way the lifts are opening at 8am right now and I highly recommend getting there around that time.
Looks like some snow through Sunday and then some sunny days. Clouds are moving in as I write this.
