Thursday Report for Dec 20, 2018

What a great week. It just kept snowing. There were days where the winds were very extreme causing the closure of the Alpine but that just saved it for us the next day.

It has been a very busy early season, especially for the morning uploads, but things changed this week.I think the combination of the free ski days for the Edge Card holders and the Blackcomb Gondola not open may have been the factors. It is now back to normal for now with no waits in the morning now. The new Blackcomb Gondola opened on Saturday and it just eats any line up that forms. Very fast and smooth.

The best day I had was Wednesday with three long knee deep powder runs and nobody there but me and my buddies. I won't tell you where, as I hope to get it tomorrow as well if the wind didn't get at it.

Today was very interesting. Winds on the peaks were off the top of the gauges so who know what they got to. I did hear 90 km/hr at Rendevous and over 180km/hr at the Horstman Hut. I hope the hut is still there. There was a lot of new snow as well but on the heavy side. Lots of lifts didn't open and some that were open had to shut down.

Temperatures are supposed to drop tonight and stay lower for a while now. This should dry out the alpine snow hopefully. Also looks like the big snow storms are finally moderating.

I would expect with the lower winds that Harmony should open tomorrow for the first time this Winter and Symphony should not be too far behind. Maybe even the Showcase T-Bar. These lifts are usually always open by about now. It was just all this wild weather I guess that has slowed their opening.

Our last of 3 untracked powder runs in a secret area. I am sure you can figure out where this is.

The Upper Blackcomb Gondola didn't open as you can see why.
