I can't believe it is March already. We are still getting some powder days and then the crowds show up as well as on the weekends. Once we hit Monday it became extra quiet though. Is this the lull before the storm? Spring Breaks should be arriving soon although I am already seeing a lot of kids that should be in school up there.
Last week I mentioned that Whistler was staying open into May according to the WB website. I have now heard two other stories. One friend said that an employee of the mountain told him that it is Blackcomb that is staying open and not Whistler and another employee said that neither mountain is staying open into May. Only time will tell but I don't think they would say May on their website if it wasn't true, or would they?
Came across a new sport for Windsurfers to use their equipment on the snow. I actually did use my rig many years ago on Alta Lake with my ice skates. Maybe I could rig up an old snowboard if the ice on the lakes is still thick enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTlbUsufODQ
As I am writing this it is now raining hard in the Valley. We haven't had many rain days this year so it is probably overdue. Update: It is now snowing in the Valley and 1C at 5:15pm.
Looks like we should get new snow at least from mid station and up. According to the forecasts, depending on which one you look at, we are going to get between 43 and 73cm of snow through Friday. Oh boy or is that oh no. Morning line-ups will start at 5am and the Alpine probably will not open. The question is do I go up Friday or not? I think I will wait until the morning and make a decision then. I just have to remember to reserve the ski day before I leave the house. It could also be real ugly if there is a long line and it is raining in the Valley. Wear a garbage bag in that case.
A big thank you to friends submitting some of the photos below.
