Thursday Report for Dec 2, 2021

If you noticed I am now emailing you myself to notify you that the Thursday Report has been published. I was using Google Feedburner before but it has been discontinued and put in limp mode.

Will this rain ever stop? I have lived in BC all my life and I cannot ever remember so much rain. At least most of the time it has been snowing up on the mountains until this last atmospheric river storm. Four houses in my neighbourhood were pumping water from their crawl spaces or off their properties. There were rivers coming down from Lost Lake Park I have never seen before.

We had two fairly good days up on the hills. Friday on Blackcomb. We skied every open run and there was good coverage. Monday was Whistler and the same there but we got some sun for a while. The only place that was light on snow was the last little bit on Olympic Run to the Garbanzo Chair and Olympic Station.

Anyways today Spring has sprung and the grass is riz. What a beautiful day in the Valley. Not so much on the mountains though. The number one comment I got today from people that came down was that it was brutal. In other words everything froze when the temperature dropped. Not much snow to get to Garbanzo or Olympic Station and Olympic Run was closed off to get there. Expressway was still open from the bottom of Red Chair. I don't think we lost a lot of snow higher, so once things soften up, it will be good. It was not busy at the base lifts so you don't need to get up at 5am to get in line.

At least the temperatures have cooled down to more normal now. I feel silly as I have shoveled my driveway at least six times already. It would have all melted on its own. At least I got some exercise. I would imagine the snowguns will be going full blast tonight to soften up the runs and provide more coverage.

Both the Rendevous and Roundhouse Restaurants have more seating now compared to last year. I like the way they have spaced the tables in the Roundhouse. It seems more spacious. I think the checking for vaccine status is going to cause major lineups, as it already is happening, and it is not busy. You still have to reserve a time. Glacier Creek is closed for dining for the moment. Prices are up again for food. A small bowl of chili is over $14 now.

Parking lot 6 at Base 2 is still closed off at the end of the lot for the staff in staff housing to park their cars. More Canadian staff with cars and less Aussies I guess.

I think we have had our quota for precipitation for this year so the forecast for the next week is for no snow, except for Monday, and seasonal temperatures below freezing. I can take that for a week so go, snow groomers go, and then bring on the powder dumps.

Last minute news flash. My next door neighbour, Broderick Thompson came in 3rd at the World Cup Super G in Beaver Creek. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/winter/alpineskiing/canada-broderick-thompson-first-world-cup-podium-finish-mens-super-g-1.6271602

Springboard run on Blackcomb on Friday.

What is that bright thing in the sky on Monday on Whistler.

Lots of snow.

Nice table spacing in the Roundhouse.

Rod and Ove enjoying the sunshine.
