It is amazing how much snow we have in the Alpine. Now that 7th Heaven and Harmony Chairs are open I was able to check it out. Most of all the rocks are covered. It seems like a mid Winter base up there. I did some out of bounds runs to check it out further. On Monday I went on my snowboard under the Ski Area Boundary rope down Burnt Stew. Lots of powder out there. On Wednesday we went under the rope to the bottom of Ridge Runner on Blackcomb. It had been groomed with a few new centemeters of fresh snow on top. Amazing coverage all the way to the bottom and out the Glacier Road. If you go under the rope you can ski out to Base 2 on Blackcomb but that might open any time now, I think the ski out on Olympic Run on Whistler is open. I did it on Monday. Both were fine with good coverage, Remember you are outside ski area boundary so you are on your own. That is my warning for the day.
A very smart friend thinks that we do not seem as busy as last year at this time due to students being back at classes and adults back at their offices. Makes sense.
I am thinking that Crystal, Glacier and Peak Chairs will be opening either tomorrow or Saturday. They were running and doing some shoveling on the Blackcomb lifts yesterday and I can see chairs on the Peak Chair on the webcam today. This is early in the season to get most of the alpine open. Yahoo!. Just the Showcase T-Bar is left to open. I am not to concerned about the Magic Chair ,but with the snowmaking it could be soon.
As Mountain Hosts we are crossing our fingers that the Colorado head honchos are going to let us back on skis by next week. I was up at the top of the Blackcomb Gondola this morning and we had a few people asking about our free tours. Hopefully next year it will happen again but I am not holding my breath.
I am trying to get the locking ski rack problem fixed outside the Rendevous Restaurant. They only have one there but have 6 at the side washroom entrance. If you see the same situtation please complain to a staff member. I complained yesterday and to my Managers today.
OK now are we going to get that big dump of snow Friday Night? One forecast says so and the other not so. They are both predicting snow everyday through Monday and one through Tuesday.and also all the way to the Valley. I have not bought gas for the snowblower so am trying not to jynx anything here,
