So many good news stories this week.
This week has been an amazing powder week starting with a 43cm dump on Saturday. The Blackcomb Gondola only had a 2 hour wait that day. Rule number 1, do not ski Saturdays. Also see a photo below. We received new snow almost every day after that. Lots of untracked powder in the Alpine every day, even after lunch. No crowds midweek.
I was told today by a senior Manager that all lifts are scheduled to open by the weekend. Also the ski out to Creekside will be officially open as well. The only negative on this is that the big storm that is coming in on Friday night and through Saturday might affect this.
The Mountain Hosts have finally been given the green light to get back on skis in uniform. We have to do a ski test and our lockers need to be organized. Out supervisors will be busy trying to organize this quickly along with bringing back a lot of our volunteers that have been waiting for this news. We will be assisting the Mountain Safety Volunteers at the end of day as they are really short staffed. We will not be doing the free tours this year.
The cross country sking and snowshoeing has started at Lost Lake Park. I saw lots of people on my walk home today that were out partaking in this.
I know I have mentioned this before but the Alpine snow base is amazing. It is like a March base or better up there. Nearly all the rocks are covered, even the gigantic ones.
This afernoon in Whistler was a Winter Wonderland with snow on all the trees and bright blus skies.
Looks like, as I mentioned above, that there might be 29 to 52 cm of snow fall from Friday night through Saturday. I think Sunday might be incredible. The one weather forecast for last Saturday was dead on, so we will see. After that, the snow stops with lots of sun or sun cloud mix.
