Thursday Report for Dec 23, 2021

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Another great week on the hills. Tons of new snow and one day with high winds. The snow is mostly light and fluffy, especially today. The Christmas crowds are starting to arrive, but if the Alpine lifts open you can manage to avoid lineups. Today the 7th Heaven lift got up to a 25 min wait but it would have been worth it if you were near the front of the line. The Alpine lifts seem to be taking longer to open then normal. I hear the Ski Patrol is short staffed but they are hiring. The Symphony Chair and Showcase T-Bar still haven't opened for this season. I was impressed though last Saturday, after another large snowfall, that they got the base lifts open around 8am. So we know it can be done.

The parking lots are starting to fill up earlier in the morning so don't sleep in.

There seems to be a lack of grooming lately. Great for the powder days but there are a lot of bumps on a lot of runs and a lack of corduroy. I heard rumours some of the snowcat groomers left. Might be a job opportunity here.

The Mountain Hosts are officially back on skis again. We had to do a ski assessment, which we all passed as far as I know. Pretty simple. A few turns and stop is all they wanted. I guess in my 24th year of Hosting that they thought they should check if I knew how to ski. Better late then never. So next week we will start full day shifts and we will find out more of what we are going to do besides the usual morning base duty and upper mountain map duty.

I am suprised how many International visitors are here this year, especially Asians. A lot of different languages can be heard.

Some of the locking ski racks outside the Rendevous have gone back down to the side washroom entrance. I would like to find out who the bozo is that goes to all that effort to move them.

With the new COVID health measures in effect the maximun table size in the restaurants is now 6 and the tables have to be 6ft apart. So now there will be less capacity. Wonderful just as we hit the Holidays but better to be safe. You have to show your original Government ID now along with the Vaccine Card. They are now scanning the Vaccine Card. Reservations are of course required, if you can get one.

On whistlerpeak.com there are two companies doing weather reports. It seems that one of them is usually right and that neither one of them gets it right every day. So based on what the two of them are predicting for the week I would say it is going to get real cold after Christmas. This seems to be almost a regular occurance. They are both saying, for a change, that only Saturday will be a snow day. When it gets real cold around here it usually stops snowing. So bundle up. It almost looks like Vancouver could get colder then us. That would be interesting.

Snow Ruler Saturday morning

Our vehicles are buried.

Can hardly see our house and the snowbanks are getting high. Sorry I had to buy gas for the snowblower. I can't shovel the snow that high.

We were out caroling in the Village

I don't get it. Exit Only but it says No Exit. Must be the Hotel California. You can check-out but you can never leave.

Harmony Chair lineup on Sunday. Social distancing at its worst.
