The busy season is here the snow is back. We have received some new snow in the last week, which had been appreciated. Yesterday on the mountains there were over 22,000 people and, with most of the alpine closed with high winds it was a challenge avoiding them. Get to the lifts early and keep ahead of the mob. Today I think there must have been over 25,000. All of the lifts opened today. I was doing line control at the Excailbur Gondola until 11:30am. The lineup for both Whistler and Blackcomb went back to the Carleton Lodge twice. The snow is very slick on the lower mountains due to the high freezing level yesterday. Expect traffic jams getting down from Lots 6,7 & 8. Tomorrow I expect the same amount of crowds and each day after should slowly reduce until Tuesday where I can have the mountain back for myself.
Looks like a bunch of new snow tonight and tomorrow and lower freezing levels. If the alpine does not open tomorrow we are in trouble again with major lineups. Hope they can get the avalanche control done quickly.
Here is a fun ski movie about Shane McConkey if you are interested.
