Thursday Report for Dec 6, 2012

What a week of snow. I went up 7 days in a row as it was so good. 5 of them were knee deep powder. On Sunday they opened Harmony Chair. I think everybody was there as the line up was huge. It was worth it though. It was actually too deep in places. Rick C. got a little lost in some bad light and ended up in the bottom of Burnt Stew Bowl. It took him over an hour to get out fighting against the deep snow on his skis. Tuesday was the big wind day with over 100 km/hr gusts, but the snow was excellent in the wind sheltered areas. Jimmy's Joker is probably as good as it ever gets. On Wednesday they opened the Peak Chair. That just leaves Symphony on Whistler as the last lift to open. The conditions are just amazing.
The lower slopes are not getting a lot of snow but I saw a snowcat doing some work there so the ski out might not be far away. As soon as the Valley temperatures drop the snow guns will be ready.

Here is a Press Release from the Mountains.

Just weeks before Christmas and only two weeks after opening to the public, Whistler Blackcomb has received the ultimate holiday gift: The chance to break another record with its snow base.
The region received 134 centimetres, or 4.4 feet, of snow in the first four days of December. Since opening day, Whistler Blackcomb has received more than 337 cm, of snow and the next four days calls for another 33 cm.
Stuart Rempel, senior vice-president of sales and marketing at Whistler Blackcomb, said in a press release that the mountain is on track for another record-setting year, with a snow base of 185 cm — the highest snow base for this time of year, compared to the last 10 years.
"It’s also 50 cm more snow than what our base was last year at this time,” he said. “This really drives home our point that Whistler Blackcomb offers some of the most consistent and reliable snow to our guests compared to any other resort in North America.”
On Saturday, Whistler Blackcomb is expecting to open Blackcomb Mountain’s alpine terrain, allowing access to 5,280 vertical feet and over 6,000 acres of skiable terrain.

People are already skinning and walking up to the Alpine on Blackcomb. The Blackcomb Glacier may not be open but I am sure people will ducking the ropes to get to the neck deep snow. Bad people!

Looks like a little lull in the snow action but maybe Sunday to Tuesday there will be another big storm. All the snow forecasts say something different. We are in the top 5 for snowbase this year and the others are all in the Pacific Northwest as well.

Ed and Patti in Burnt Stew in the deep! They look like trees.

Beautiful snow on Stoker this morning.

The Ski School Building is disappearing again.
