Thursday Report for Jan 9, 2013

Things are starting to look better. I have had 3 powder days in the last week. The rocks are starting to get covered and there is supposed to be a lot more snow on the way.

Last Friday was very nice with fresh snow. The best runs I had in the powder were on Countdown on Blackcomb and then the Symphony Bowl area. I was hoping to miss the boulders at the top of the bowl but found a very stationary one which flipped me onto the back of my neck. I am almost better now but my board is now missing part of the heal edge. Good thing it is my rock board. Nothing that a little epoxy can't fix.

Sunday I we went backcountry with my splitboard. Sunshine and light beautiful powder on Flute and Oboe. Mike, Madeline, Ed, Ove, Joe and Diane were on the trip.

Monday it was congratulations to Col. Bob on his 70th birthday. The party started at the Dubh Linn Gate and ended up at Bob and Jan's place.

Today I took 3 snowboarders on a tour. Two from Korea and one from California. Runs like Ridge Runner over on Crystal Ridge are getting much better now. The top of it is now actually rock free. Yahoo! The hard pack is still around but there is a lot of soft snow as well. It snowed all day. When I got home I shoveled the driveway for only the second time this Winter.

If the forecast is correct we are supposed to get a lot of snow over the next 4 days. Accuweather was totally wrong last weekend and Environment Canada was correct for a change. They are both calling for snow, so can they both be wrong? I am hoping they both got it right this time.

Just for fun do a Google search for "do a barrel roll"

  1. Thanks, Don!
My son and me had one of most exciting days.
That was our firstday in Whistler and it was unforgetable.

  2. Thanks for coming on the tour. It is fun when I have fellow snowboarders along. I saw you up there today but couldn't get your attention. Hope you had a great day.
