What a week it has been. Feels like the old Whistler is back. Friday was amazing with deep powder and sunshine. I stayed away on the weekend as I think the whole world showed up. Lots of Edge Card holders using up their free skiing before it expires I believe. Monday was just as good. Our secret powder tree run in Symphony Bowl was bottomless and untracked again.
There is great coverage almost everywhere and I think that the Creekside runs will be open soon as the snowguns are going full blast.
I am expecting Symphony Chair to open tomorrow as they were testing it today. If not, it will probably be on Saturday. The Horstman T-Bar might take a while to open with the receding of the glacier. They will fire up the 5 new snowguns on the ridge over the Horstman Glacier in January to see if they can reverse Mother Nature.
Today I joined the Blackcomb Glacier tour for the first time this year. The new alignment of the Showcase T-Bar works well. The hike from there up to the Blackcomb Glacier is a little steeper at the top. The big difference this year in the glacier is the big ice cave below Husume, Basically it is at the dip on the skiers right run at the bottom of the glacier. The run now goes to the right above the ice cave. Do not duck the rope and try to shortcut. You will have a 40 foot drop. The road out is in good shape.
Looks like the snow is going to continue through the weekend. Yahoo!
