Thursday Report for Jan 28, 2016

An interesting week. I basically stayed home for most of it. Saturday was very busy and I don't usually go up Saturdays anyways. I went up on Monday thinking it would be icy but it actually was quite good. The groomers performed miracles on the snow. Ptarmigan was excellent. Since it is a race training center it is only open on Mondays and Tuesdays so is always in good shape. It was very wet almost to the tops of the mountains on Tuesday and Wednesday as the warm front, probably from Hawaii, passed through. Today started off a little wet but the cold front started pushing in after lunch and lowered the freezing level, Skiing off piste in untracked snow was impossible but the groomed runs were quite nice and easy to ski. Snowboarding off piste might have been OK but I had my skis on today so can't give you an answer on that.
They were blasting late today so hopefully the Alpine lifts will get open tomorrow and the new snow will dry out without a crust on it. Might try the snowboard tomorrow in the Symphony area.
The freezing level should continue to lower and we will get some snow for a few days and then sun. So back to normal again.
On Saturday the lifts will be open for another 1/2 hour as the days get longer.

Crystal Ridge tour today.

Barb snowshoeing on the River Runs Through it Trail. Hang on tight and don't slip!

Lake at the bottom of White Light right at the finish line of a slopestyle event today. Maybe the lake was part of the race.

Snow is getting deep at our hut. It is getting quite a bit higher then our deck.
