Finally this is my last Thursday Report for the 2016-17 season. It has been a long and great one for sure. Monday was the last day Blackcomb was open, but if they wanted to, they could have probably kept it open for many weeks yet. This weekend Whistler opens for sightseeing along with the Peak to Peak Gondola. The Wizard and Solar Coaster Chairs will reopen on June 10 so you can do the full circle.
It was a record year for me. 126 days on Whistler /Blackcomb and 5 days on the Powder Highway totalling 131 days. Previous record was 114 which was set last year. Ended up 12th for vertical for staff which beat the previous year of 42nd. You can tell from that, that it was a very good year for snow and quality snow.
The last day, Gapers Day, was fun . Lots of wild costumes and many people including me skiing and snowboarding in shorts and t-shirts as it was so warm. Spring skiing finally arrived in full force on the last weekend.
Looks like they are going ahead with a suspension bridge over Whistler Bowl at the top of the Peak Chair. It could possibly be the highest suspension bridge in North America. WB is always going for records.
Have a great Summer everyone and see you next season.
Breaking news. Our CEO Dave Brownlie has just stepped down and Vail is looking for a replacement. He has been with WB for almost 30 years. He will be missed. Anybody interested?
